Adding my Del.icio.us resources to my blog

Well, here is possibly my last post. I have hopefully added my Del.icio.us resources to my blog - time will tell, as it won't be updated until 2 July and is not working on Eastern Standard Time in Australia.
Okay - this has now become possibly my second last post, as I will need to log on again in a few days time to see if the resources are there!
The whole exercise has been interesting and very informative. I'm enjoying my Facebook account the most of everything that I have learned about or used so far, as I can use it to keep up with my friends & relations, many of those who are overseas. I'm not so keen on the online photo sharing - I just don't think the world wants to see my photos & I'm not really comfortable with the idea of my photos being out in the world. Wikis have many uses, and I will doubtlessly use them again in the workplace but probably for any other use. I'll continue checking my RSS feeds, just to see how useful they may be. I may even attempt to follow some more blogs, but be selective about them. The few that I have tried to follow have really annoyed me as the spelling, grammar & punctuation seem appalling and the content rather whinging. I know that not all of them are like that though.
Time to go for now.

Del.icio.us and the uses thereof

After reading a bit more about Del.icio.us, I can see how useful it is for sharing websites and tagging them.
I first read about Library Thing in the Good Reading magazine, where it was suggested for cataloguing private book collections. I checked it out, but wasn't really interested in sharing my opinions of books.
I had a look at the Sutherland Shire Libraries use of Del.icio.us and can see how conveniently Reference librarians could share and update their lists of current favourite websites. The tags are handy for giving an (extremely) brief overview so you can quickly see if you want to read the website.
I'll explore more and then blog more on this topic.

RSS feeds, part 3 (finally) & Del.icio.us

I have just learned how to add an RSS feed to this blog - see the ABC news stories on the left.
And I finally understand about adding websites to my Del.icio.us account and accessing them. I misunderstood them entirely (what a surprise!) and thought that they would be something like Links or Favourites, accessed easily everytime I logged on, or perhaps like the good old ListServ where you automatically get updates as emails. Now I can see how you can take them with you - it's like a web-based email account where you can log on anywhere. The thing that I mistook on the Powerhouse Museum website wasn't an RSS feed, which added to my confusion.
I'm dragging myself kicking & screaming into the 21st century. :) Time to go and check what is happening with the other RSS feeds that I subscribed to. Hope you all enjoy the ABC newsfeeds.

My lovely viking from Lego

Here is the lovely viking that I made from Lego (with some assistance from Nelle).

On a more serious note, I have signed up to Del.icio.us and bookmarked a few sites that will be useful when I move jobs back to Public & Indigenous Library Services next week. I have bookmarked Brisbane City Council Library catalogue, Fantastic Fiction website and the National Library's Libraries Australia catalogue. Time to go to my last desk shift, then off for Friday afternoon drinks.

RSS feeds, part 2

Here I am again, reading my Bloglines account and understanding the RSS feeds a little more. My main trouble is a very short attention span - I tend to click on the fun things and forget about the more serious ones. I found a lovely picture of a prawn on a bicycle, apparently from the Sydney Olympics, on the Powerhouse Museum site - but I couldn't manage to add the RSS feed. Then I made a lovely lego person but couldn't save it nicely like Mary did with her "What's New" page...
Must keep concentrating and practising. I think I was expecting RSS feeds to be like updates that came straight to my email address, not something that I have to remember to log in to.
Onward and upward to lesson 6, but I'll review this one. Must remember to check the Facebook page too.

The joys of subscribing to RSS feeds

I'm beginning to wish that I was still on holidays! I'm trying really hard to get my head around RSS feeds. To start with I tried making a Bloglines account, using my work email address and was told that my address was in use. Have I secretly been subscribing to things in my sleep??

Anyway, I used one of my many other accounts and set up an account and have (hopefully) subscribed to 6 news feeds, including Mary's OPAL training, John Oxley Library blog, BBC News, Bloglines news and New York Times book reviews. I have also subscribed to an interesting site about urban legends because they fascinate me.

Time will tell how useful I find them - must sign off now because I am needed elsewhere.

Visiting my own personal library

Hi all,
Well I'm back from my holidays and raring to go. I'll just share one holiday photo with you - the library of my dreams! Seriously, it is the public library in Katherine in the Northern Territory.
I did try to read a few blogs while I was away, but it was a holiday from technology as well - I left such things to the young(er) members of my group.
Now, time to read about RSS feeds.
Bye
