Social networking - once upon a time (in 2008 in fact) I was told that I would love having a Facebook page. In some ways this is true, I do enjoy catching up with friends and relatives who I don't see much, but in other ways it is another thing to feel guilty about not updating it...
I like the way that I can put one comment or photo up & everyone can read it at once - compared with individual emails. I like the casualness of it all, the lack of formality. I also enjoy the groups and quizzes - yes, I have become a fan of Fairy Bread.
Now for the holiday update - my road trip from Broome to Darwin begins this Sunday. 2 1/2 weeks driving, sticking to the highway, but visiting national parks and famous stuff on the way. I'll manage at least 1 post to this blog - but the holiday is really about getting away from it all.
We have Scrabble to play for when the conversation lapses, hopefully it won't cause too many arguments!

more on wikis
I've been checking out a few wikis - some are definitely more interesting than others. I enjoyed the postcards on the Wisconsin Heritage wiki. My knowledge of the Milwaukee area was entirely from 1970s American television programs. I'm still not sure why anyone would send a postcard showing a factory with lots of smoke pouring from the chimneys, but I should try not to judge by modern standards.
I enjoyed some of the issues discussed on the LIS wiki - particularly ones about managing mobile (cell) phones in libraries - as this has been an issue of relevance to me.
Possible next generation catalogs was also interesting - seeing how other libraries are developing. Good to see the State Library of Tasmania represented.

wikis and holidays
I've just been reading up on wikis and realised that I could have used one to organise the road trip that I am going on next month. I shall just have to organise another holiday, using a wiki to organise myself and my friends.
In case you are wondering (and I know you are all really curious) I am flying to Broome, then driving to Darwin. I am going with some relatives and some friends. If I am really organised, I may even take some photos and upload them to my blog. But I could just ignore the joys on modern communication and send a few postcards instead...
